World’s Largest Tree House Stands 10-Stories Tall
Photo via Obvious
16 years ago, Horrace Burges had a divine vision, a calling from heaven. And, like the ark-crafting Noah before him, Horrace picked up a hammer and built a large wooden structure of his own–the world’s largest tree house. At 10 stories tall, with roughly 10,000 square feet, the tree house may be more aptly called a ‘tree mansion’, but according Horrace, it’s a work in progress….Read the full story on TreeHugger

The great hope of those who want coal to remain at the center of our energy mix–CCS–received special attention this week from Mike Morris, head of American Electric Power, the nation’s largest utility. At a conference sponsored by the Wall Street Journal, Morris touted the progress of AEP’s test carbon capture and sequestration project in West Virginia. The project, which is backed by Department of Energy funding, is now capturing and storing about 2 percent of the emissions from the New Haven coal-f…Read the full story on TreeHugger

Green Gowns on Oscar’s Red Carpet

Even with Linda Loudermilk and Stella McCartney’s high-end sustainable clothing, it is still an effort to get eco-minded celebs into black tie worthy gowns. A couple years ago, retro Chanel was all the rage, which was a great idea, until Reese Witherspoon discovered hers wasn’t a one-and-only dress, as she’d been told, and her ’50s number showed up on somebody else. These are problems we don’t have to worry about, thankfully. To avoid the whole thing, actress Suzy Amis Cameron (wife of Avatar’s James Cameron) held a contest f…Read the full story on TreeHugger

Sunlight + Water = Hydrogen Gas
Scientists at the University of East Anglia, led by Dr. Thomas Nann, report a breakthrough in the production of hydrogen from water using the energy of sunlight. Amidst all the hype about a potential hydrogen economy, which would rely upon the highly energetic and clean burning hydrogen atom, one of the big questions has been whether sufficient hydrog…Read the full story on TreeHugger

Israel’s planning system is inefficient, and long overdue for a reform – on this, almost everyone agrees. What kind of reform? On this there is no consensus, but plenty of ideas are floating around. In the meantime, an expeditious attempt to reform the system has ignited a storm of controversy, and even the High Court has been drawn into the dispute, issuing an injunction last week temporarily preventing the government from even discussing the matter.
What is it about planning reform that has so many people in Israel in an uproar?…Read the full story on TreeHugger

Reusable Bottles: Glass Makes a Come Back

As a rule, I am not one of these greenies that gets overly excited about new reusable bottles. I have an old reusable bottle somewhere, and it occasionally gets used when I venture out of the house—but I’ve always been a little confused by the amount of attention paid to fancy reusable bottles and their cousins, the reusable tote. But with recent scandals over BPA in old Sigg water bottles, and with <a href="http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/04/nalgene-dumps-bpa….Read the full story on TreeHugger
