We’ve been seen plants and natural elements integrate to pretty much everything lately: chairs, fashion accessories, you name it. And although they’re probably more concept than real sustainable solutions for products, they show interesting ways to view natural materials.

The objects from this article come from a new workshop by the <a href="http://www.treehugger….Read the full story on TreeHugger

For anyone who’s ever wished they could experience the joy and comfort of being eaten by a stuffed shark, one designer has created a menacing-looking sleeping bag that will make short work of the sandman. Dubbed the ChumBuddy, the 7 foot long stuffed killing-machine is sure to delight all who become ensnared in the shark’s plush, gapping mouth, or who nestle in its soft, fleece bowels. Just imagine the joy of tucking your child in the shark’s throat each and every night while reading them a b…Read the full story on TreeHugger

One of the shows that stood out this year at the Milan Furniture Fair was the Design Academy Eindhoven’s Question exhibition at the up and coming district Ventura Lambrate. With all this excess of design and the various crisis going on (environmental, social, economic,…), it is nice to see that one group sat down and asked questions about the role of design. And they encouraged visitors to <a href="http://design…Read the full story on TreeHugger

Milan Furniture Fair 2010: Live Bio-resin Performance by Breaded Escalope (Video)

| Published April 21, 2010

bE-Studio at Milan 2010

There are plenty of cocktail parties at the Furniture Fair in Milan, but this one was quite different. All the way out in Zona Bovisa we visited the show Meet My Project and were greeted at a bar that served fresh… bioresin products! The 3 designers from Breaded Escalope Design Studio in Vienna were not mixing drinks but small products behind their Shakin’ Products Bar. The products were made in the same way as their Original Stool: by shaking and rolling the moulds the bioresin hardens in about 10 minutes and out pops a finished piece….Read the full story on TreeHugger

Even with Steve Jobs laying claim to the word “Pad” and smartphones taking the place of the pocket notebook, there is still plenty of room for transferring thoughts to cellulose with an ink-filled pen or wooden pencil. People got a kick out of our roundup of Moleskine hacks, but for those seeking a more earth-amenable notebook, cast your discerning eyes on Scout Books.

La Pell – How green is this local leather design project?

| Published February 25, 2010

La Pell leather packaging design
Leather packaging design by Sebastian Vecchio and Guillem Ferran.

Leather might not seem the most treehugger-liked material, but like with any material, it depends how you use it, where it comes from and what processes it has undergone. A few craftsmen and designers in Catalonia, Spain, got together and created some beautiful pieces to promote certain local trades (in this case the leather production) to prevent them from disappearing in the region due to the pressure of cheaper products from China or elsewhere. The project is called La Pell, which means the skin …Read the full story on TreeHugger

Become a Rich Person with a Seed Safe by Martí Guixé

Seed Safe by Martí Guixé for Alessi

Alessi has just launched a new product by Spanish designer Martí Guixé; the Seed Safe. It is a beautiful jar, dedicated to collect the seeds from vegetables and fruits we eat so that they can be planted instead of thrown away or composted. Guixé, who has a thing for seeds (see the Plant Me Pet), believes that the Seed Safe is a must in every home, and since “seeds are in some way more valuable than money”, planting those…Read the full story on TreeHugger
