La Pell – How green is this local leather design project?

| Published February 25, 2010

La Pell leather packaging design
Leather packaging design by Sebastian Vecchio and Guillem Ferran.

Leather might not seem the most treehugger-liked material, but like with any material, it depends how you use it, where it comes from and what processes it has undergone. The project is called La Pell, which means the skin …Read the full story on TreeHugger

Become a Rich Person with a Seed Safe by Martí Guixé

Seed Safe by Martí Guixé for Alessi

Alessi has just launched a new product by Spanish designer Martí Guixé; the Seed Safe. It is a beautiful jar, dedicated to collect the seeds from vegetables and fruits we eat so that they can be planted instead of thrown away or composted. Guixé, who has a thing for seeds (see the Plant Me Pet), believes that the Seed Safe is a must in every home, and since “seeds are in some way more valuable than money”, planting those…Read the full story on TreeHugger

For many years now (read our first article about Leopoldo in 2005), this Catalan design is appearing in more and more homes, restaurants, galleries and other spaces in need of green and locally grown food. It changed in size and colour, and another interesting aspect of the Leopoldo Urban Vegetable Garden is its use in hospitals. The flat-pack recyclable steel structure with its black recycled planters…Read the full story on TreeHugger

Ronen Kadushin’s LYTA Chair: lightweight and 100% recyclable

| Published January 14, 2010

LYTA chair, eco-friendly and lightweight
(more images below)

What makes a chair eco-friendly? Well, it takes quite a lot of things such as recyclability, reduced weight, longevity, both technically and emotionally, and the possibility to repair it before tossing it away. An eco-friendly chair cannot be thrown out because of a broken leg, or a wine stain. It seems that Israeli-born, Berlin-based designer Ronen Kadushin has archived these requirements in his LYTA chair. …Read the full story on TreeHugger

Play Golf and Feed the Fish with Ecobioball

Our seas and oceans are badly contaminated, especially with plastic waste, which affects animals and plants in the waters. Jeremy wrote in The Great Pacific Garbage Patch: Out of Sight, Out of Mind that “the floating expanse of waste and debris in the Pacific Ocean is now covering an area twice the size of the continental U.S. believed to hold almost 100m tons of flotsam, this vast “plastic soup” stretches 500 nautical miles off the Californian coast, past Hawaii and almost as far as Japan”. Between 40% and 60% of the waste collecte…Read the full story on TreeHugger
